Since 1997, every piece of ShyGems jewelry has been handmade to order in our own studio in Houston, Texas. There are no factory lines here, and nothing is mass-produced, warehoused, or pulled from a shelf. When you place an order, a master jeweler makes your piece for you — forming the metal, setting the stones, and finishing every surface by hand, the way fine jewelry has always been made.

ShyGems is a working jewelry studio, not a warehouse with a website. Walk through it on any day and you will find benches worn smooth by decades of use, microscopes, hand tools that have shaped thousands of rings, and trays of loose gemstones waiting to be chosen. This is where every ShyGems ring, pendant, and pair of earrings begins — and where it is finished.
Every jeweler at our bench has more than twenty years of experience at the craft. Together they form a small, leading team of master jewelers and stone setters, recognized for the quality of their handwork and for the alternative gemstone jewelry that has become the studio's signature. A ShyGems piece passes through human hands at every stage — designed, formed, set, polished, and inspected by people who have spent their working lives doing exactly this.
That is the difference between handmade and merely assembled. A machine repeats; a jeweler judges. The slight character in a hand-finished band, the way a stone sits in its setting, the weight of a piece when you first lift it from its box — those things come from experience, and they cannot be rushed or automated.
From the first sketch to the final polish, a ShyGems piece typically spends five to six days on our benches before it ships. We think that is exactly as it should be: something made to be worn for a lifetime deserves more than a moment in the making.
The Process
How your jewelry is made
Design & stone selection
Every design begins in the studio. Before any metal is touched, your gemstone is picked by hand — examined for its colour, its character, and the way it catches light.
Hand fabrication
The band is formed, soldered, and shaped by hand at the bench, made to your exact ring size — made once, for one person.
Setting & engraving
Stones are set by hand under the microscope, one at a time. If you would like your piece engraved, we engrave it by hand, free of charge.
Polish & inspection
The finished piece is polished, inspected under magnification, and checked once more before it is boxed — gift-ready.

The stones we love
Alternative gemstones are the house specialty, and they have been since long before they were fashionable. Sapphire leads the collection — teal, blue, and peach — alongside morganite, moss agate, moissanite, alexandrite, and salt-and-pepper diamond, in both natural and lab-grown stones.
These stones are chosen for individuality. A moss agate carries a landscape no other stone will ever repeat; a salt-and-pepper diamond holds its own galaxy of inclusions; a teal sapphire shifts colour with the light. If your love story is one of a kind, we believe your ring should be too — and a stone with character, set by hand in solid precious metal, is how we make sure of it.
